ICEJ Aid

Serving the Nation

A major part of ICEJ's work in Israel is a practical application of "comforting the nation" - involving numerous projects, some smaller, some larger, but all making a difference and adding value to someone's life. Here in the UK we are committed to supporting these programmes and gifts can be sent via the UK Branch - online or by post.     Click here to find details of how to donate online or by post -  with an instruction of its designation to ICEJ Aid and/or any specific ICEJ Aid project or appeal.  Funds  received here are transferred regularly over to the ICEJ In Jerusalem as designated.    For the latest ICEJ Aid news follow this link to main webpage of ICEJ Aid.

Tika Dental Treatment Project for immigrant orphans:            After the fall of communism in 1991, the Ukraine like most of the FSU suffered from economic collapse and the disintegration of social services. The extreme hardship that followed has impacted the most vulnerable. In 1993 Tikva Odessa was created to seek out Jewish children in need.  They come from abusive family situations, state orphanages, or live on the street.  This photo was taken in Ukraine as an example of the type of poverty these children come from:

Tikva operates homes and educational programs in the heart of Odessa serving over 300 children. When Tikva's children turn 16 years of age, Tikva provides the opportunity for relocation to Israel offering a wide range of financial and emotional assistance. Due to the traumatic past of the majority of Tikva's participants, ongoing care is needed to ensure they continue their path into adulthood as healthy, happy and self sufficient individuals.

Tikva Israel was founded in 1998 to provide support for those deciding to live in Israel.  The student center opened in 2006 offers a unique, tight knit community that provides a wide array of social and educational programming to encourage a smooth acclimation into Israel.  Among activities offered there are Jewish studies, art, cooking, parenting, and general guidance counseling.  Since the first young adults arrived in 1998, graduates from Tikva's Homes and Schools in Odessa have successfully enrolled in higher education, are serving in the IDF, working or self employed.  Poor dental health is a pervasive problem facing many of the children that Tikva cares for.  Dental health is given low priority in poverty stricken homes where energy, by necessity, is focused upon the struggle to survive. At Tikva Homes the children are taken to local dentists where, unfortunately, the care is sub standard and many problems are left to fester, sometimes for years.

Dental care is not free in Israel and although it is minimally subsidized by Health Insurance, the cost of more complicated treatments is costly.  ICEJ Aid's  goal is to raise $25,000 in 2009 for these new immigrants orphans to enable them to live healthy and pain free.

Adopt a Holocaust Survivor:
For ten years now, January 27th has been reserved in Germany for a day of remembrance; a day the country remembers when the Holocaust became a lasting scar on world history. On this date in 1945, the Red Army liberated Auschwitz, exposing Nazi brutality to the world. This year it will be recognized by the United Nations as a global anniversary. Its recognition by the world body comes at a time when there is a frightening resurgence of anti-Semitism and continuing Holocaust denial. Each year too, the number of eye witnesses dwindles.

ICEJ Aid has partnered with the Israeli organisation L'Chaim (To Life) that cares for a number of survivors in the Galilee, the Golan and coastal region, helping to cover their medications, food, house repairs, and other needs. This arrangement now allows Christians the opportunity to “adopt” a Holocaust survivor. Just as important, the lonely elderly survivors are offered companionship through in-home visits by young Israeli volunteers from local schools. Many Holocaust Survivors are still waiting for help.  Full sponsorship is $US250/€200 per month and we request a commitment of at least one year. A fellowship group may like to jointly adopt a survivor. Part adoption is also welcome. One-time gifts are used for special needs of the survivors. Write to icejaid@icej.org for further information and a commitment form.

****  Make sure it never happens again.....   STOP A NUCLEAR IRAN ....  Follow this link to sign an online petition for indictment of Iran's president; we need to take action to ensure it never happens again.  On September 18, 2008 this petition was delivered to the United Nations in New York on behalf of over 55,000 Christians from more than 120 countries. Although the petition is now formally closed, you can still add your name online and demonstrate your support for our efforts to urge the UN to indict President Ahmadinjad for incitement to genocide against Israel. Thank you for taking a stand with Israel at this time!
